Our Top 5 Self Care Tips

At INIKA Organic, we believe that looking after yourself should always be your number one priority. Particularly during times of uncertainty or change, practicing self care can play a huge part in maintaining your overall mental health and wellbeing.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues and daily routines and habits are disrupted, it’s only natural to feel a little anxious. In our opinion, this makes self care and wellbeing more important than ever. Ways to practice self care vary between people, but for many beauty enthusiasts, there’s plenty of comfort to be found in a regular beauty routine and at-home spa day.

Whether you’re working from home, practicing social distancing, or both, make time in your schedule to follow our self care tips and find calm during this challenging time.

1. Keep your hands soft and nourished

Practicing good hand hygiene is one of the best ways to do your bit for preventing the spread of COVID-19 and to protect yourself from becoming unwell. Still, washing your hands more often than usual - likely with an antibacterial hand wash or hand sanitiser - can be seriously drying. The alcohol in most hand sanitisers, similar to the surfactants in many antibacterial soaps, can strip your hands of not only germs and pathogens, but also of moisture and essential oils.

To protect your hands, we recommend regularly massaging in a generous amount of our Phytofuse Renew Avocado Oil Hand Cream. Enriched with the powerful Rose of Jericho Extract, this nourishing hand cream creates a physical barrier against moisture loss, making it the best hand cream for dry hands.

2. Indulge in your regime

With so many daily routines disrupted, it’s important to hang onto the ones that you can continue to do as a means of finding comfort and consistency. If you already have an established skincare routine, continue with that - if not, now is a great time to take our Skincare Quiz and start one! Better yet, treat yourself to a relaxing spa day at home by following our tips.

Step 1: Cleanse

Start off by removing all traces of makeup, dirt, oils, and impurities with a natural facial cleanser like our Phytofuse Renew Camellia Oil Cleanser. With a unique in-built silicone brush head, this natural cleanser gently massages the skin to ensure a deep cleanse while providing a sensory spa experience.

Step 2: Buff away dead skin cells

Improve skin texture and remove dead skin cells with the Phytofuse Renew Caviar Lime Exfoliator. The clarifying formula of this gentle exfoliant includes AHA fruit complexes that purify pores and remove dead skin cells, leaving you with clear, radiant skin.

Step 3: Restore your skin’s natural barrier

Repair damaged skin with Phyto-Active Botanical Face Oil, our potent face oil that delivers serious hydration and skin protection. This elixir combines 18 botanical oils to reinforce the skin’s natural moisture barrier and boost cell renewal, leaving you with perfectly plump, moisturised skin.

Step 4: Target wrinkles and rejuvenate appearance

Did you know that the skin around your eyes is thinner and more delicate than the rest of your face? A rich eye cream like the Phytofuse Renew Resveratrol Eye Cream will nourish this delicate area, and improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles. For best results, dab it on gently using the applicator provided and keep it in the fridge between uses.

Step 5: Help your skin recover

Dealing with dry or sensitive skin? Pamper your skin and give it the best chance to recover by incorporating natural essential oils into your nightly ritual. Infused with Sunflower, Rosehip, and Argan oils, our Phytofuse Renew Resveratrol Night Cream and Phytofuse Renew Resveratrol Rich Night Cream promote deep hydration that can speed up skin regeneration.

As a bonus, resveratrol-rich grape extract helps to neutralise free-radicals that cause signs of ageing, meaning you can wake up to nourished and glowing skin.

3. Add a pampering massage

Take your self care spa day to another level by adding a facial massage. To do this, start by applying a natural moisturiser evenly over your face. Then, place the heel of your palm between your brows and use firm, circular motions as you move your hand towards your hairline.

Next, drain any excess fluid from your face by repeating this process from the underside of your cheekbones backwards to your hairline. Return your palms to the cheekbones and apply a firm, outward pressure to the outside of your face. Repeat this action along your jawline, continuing all the way to the back of your head and dragging the fluid down the neck. Repeat this process five times.

To finish, place two fingers on either side of your nose. With a firm downward motion, follow the crease of your nose past the sides of your lips and down to your clavicle to draw excess and stagnant fluid away from your face.

4. Get some sun

Safe sun exposure is one of the best ways to boost your immune system naturally, and can also do wonders for your mood. By getting your daily dose of Vitamin D, you can activate white blood cells, which fight off pathogens that cause viral infections and other health problems.

What’s more, getting an adequate amount of sun everyday can help regulate your body’s production of serotonin, which regulates moods, and melatonin, which regulates sleep. Take time to soak up some sunshine everyday, whether you’re heading out for exercise or eating lunch in the park. Just remember to practice sun safety and apply SPF and wear a hat and sunglasses if you’re going to be in the sun for longer than 15 minutes.

5. Yoga

Keeping active is a great way to relieve anxiety and boost your overall mental health. Even if you’re practicing social distancing or limiting your time spent outdoors per government and expert medical advice, there are plenty of ways to keep active indoors.

Yoga is a particularly good option, since many studios are now live streaming their classes or hosting them online. You also don’t need anything more than space for a yoga mat or towel, and as a low intensity exercise it won’t put strain on your joints or irritate any existing injuries. Even better: In addition to its mood-boosting properties, yoga is known to improve digestion and help you get radiant skin from the inside out!
